The crystal cave is famous for its numerous formations of calcite. As always, there are many formations with fantastic names. More interesting can be fossil sea lilies found in the cave. This is the only cave show in Ozarks where you can see these fossils. The cave also has many gelictitis.
This cave is in a very natural state. Most of the time the visitor goes along the natural floor of the cave, and education, often in your reach. This is a rarity, since visitors can easily destroy unique formations. So the main reason why this cave is so different from others, the owner of Lloyd Richardson leads visitors to his cave personally and share his experience with his guests. He explains what can be done and what should not be done, and why is it necessary. This makes a visit to the cave unique.
The first registered owners of the crystal cave were William Wallace and William Jenkins. She was opened for the public in 1893 by Alfred Mann, the Englishman. It was the second commercial cave in the state of Missouri, the Mark Twain Cave on Hannibal was opened since 1886.
